LONDON, June 30, (Reuters) (Reuters) - American Coco Gaff made jaws drop with her rocket launch of 122 mph and 124 mph effort over the net in Wimbledon's second round on Thursday. This was the fastest serve in the women's tournament thus far. Gservers



In the midst of Centre Court by Mihaela Buzarnescu from Romania, the 18-year old superstar forced her opponent to make a forehand mistake in order to win the fifth game of the second set using the power serve.



She continued her 124 mph screamer in the second set, and then closed the match 6-2 and 6-3 to set the stage for a third round match with Amanda Anisimova.



The 18-year-old Roland Garros finalist was one of the most intimidating athletes in the sport. She pounded 120 mph in the previous round against Elena-Gabriela Ruse who is a Romanian.



With 119 miles per hour, Petra Kvitova was second fastest server of the competition.



Gauff who was ranked 12th, burst onto the Wimbledon stage in 2019 making it to the fourth round of the grass-court stage at the age of 15 years old.
