A very rare early version of Minecraft that was thought to be lost, has been rediscovered over ten years after its release. Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 was released for the original Java Edition in September 2010 and was accessible for a little over three hours. Now it's finally been found again by gaming archivists.

Over the years there have been hundreds on hundreds of Minecraft versions. Fans have meticulously collected and archived many of them for preservation. One version called Alpha 1.1.1, also known as Seecret Sunday, was thought to be lost. It introduced fishing rods and sneaking to Minecraft. The whole story of its rediscovery was revealed over Twitter by the user @lunasorcery (via Kotaku), who found the lost Alpha 1.1.1. As Luna says the story, Alpha 1.1.1 became a viral phenomenon or even a holy grail of the Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive and no one of them expected to discover it.

Someone stumbled across one of Luna's old tweets, and asked her about it. She later discovered a backup of minecraft.jar that was on the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release on September 18, 2010. Luna verified that the file was Alpha 1.1.1 and posted about it on Omniarchive and it was later taken down.

So I made a post in Omniarchive and it wouldn't be understatement to say that some people were interested. Minecraft servers
